Lake Mývatn and Goðafoss day tour
From Akureyri we drive to Lake Mývatn one of the most scenic places in Iceland due to the landscape filled with craters and lava formations and amazing bird population. Breathtaking panoramic views make Lake Mývatn one of the most beautiful places in the world.
The first stop on the way is at the waterfall Goðafoss (The Waterfall of The Gods), one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. Its name derives from the year 1000 when the Lawspeaker Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði made Christianity the official religion of Iceland.
From Goðafoss we head to Dimmuborgir, a large area composed of various volcanic caves and rock formations, reminiscent of an ancient collapsed citadel.
Next stop Jarðböðin (the Mývatn nature baths), which is a place just as unique as the Blue Lagoon.
Stop at Jarðböðin (45-60 min) Not inlcuded. Bring: Towels, Swimsuits and all that you need. Lockers are included in the price when you pay the entrance.
Those who don´t go into Jarðböðin go for a short tour to Grjótagjá, a small lava cave with a thermal spring inside.
From Jarðböðin we drive to Námaskarð. The name derives from the 19th century sulphur mine located at an altitude of 410 m. The place is a myriad of hot mud springs in widely different colors.
Dynjandi waterfall day tour
This tour starts in Ísafjörður and we head to the waterfall Dynjandi which is situated in Arnarfjörður fjord. The waterfalls have a cumulative height of 100m. Dynjandi is 30 meter wide at its highest point and 60 meters at its lowest point. It is actually a series of waterfalls 7 in total.
In 1980 Dynjandi waterfall and its surrounding was declared a natural monument and is as such preserved. It is one of the most photographed sights in all of Iceland and you will have plenty of time do some creative photography.
There are plenty of beautiful sights on the way. Driving across and through the mountains is one of the best example of the harsh landscape in West Iceland.
All from narrow passes across sharp mountains ridges; deep and beautiful fjords where the farmers and villages cuddle together on a narrow strip of land. In this tour we have plenty of photo stops along the way to make your trip unforgettable.
Golden Circle day tour
The great Golden Circle day tour is a must-do day tour out of Reykjavik. It offers you the opportunity to discover some of the highlights of southwest Iceland. It also provides you with a general insight into the Icelandic history, geology, its people and its rich cultural heritage.
After our pick up in the morning, we start by driving directly over Hellisheiði mountain area to Hveragerði. Hveragerði is know for it‘s earthquake in 2008. One of the worst in the towns history. We will learn all about it in the eathquake center in Hveragerði.
Second stop is Faxi waterfall. Faxi waterfall is spectacular, although it is not the most grand waterfall in the area, it tells us a story. As well in the waterfall, the salmon ladder is located. Can you spot it?
After a short walk through the area, we continue towards the Geyser geothermal area. There, you have enough time to discover Strokkur, one of the most active geysers in the world. It spouts hot water and steam at a height of 20 – 25 meters every 5 – 8 minutes.
After a lunch break in the area, we head towards Gullfoss “Golden Waterfall”, Europe’s second most powerful waterfall. It is located on the Hvítár “White River”, one of Iceland’s major glacier rivers.
After the beautiful Golden waterfall then we drive directly to our National park of Þingvellir. Iceland‘s first national park, This is the birthplace of a nation as well as of the first Icelandic democracy when the Viking chieftains decided to establish their first parliament (Althingi) or “general assembly“ in 930 AD. Many events took place in the area, including the introduction of Christianity in the year 1000 AD, the declaration of independence from the Danish Kings on June 17, 1944.
Besides its historical and cultural importance, the park displays a unique geology and natural landscapes. There, one can learn and understand the tectonic activity or the so-called the continental drift, the boundary between North American and Eurasian plate tectonics. Thingvellir is one of the only sites on Earth where the effects of two major tectonic plates drifting apart can be observed.
Notorious for its outstanding natural beauty, Thingvellir National Park served as one the main filming locations of Game of Thrones in Iceland. There, you can experience the site the same way encountered or seen by the cast of the White Walkers and the trail of the Wildlings from North of the Wall.
